Planning a pet-friendly 30A vacation takes a little extra preparation—especially when it comes to beach access.

Walton County has specific rules for dogs on its Gulf beaches, but that does not mean your pup has to miss the coastal experience. From a designated dog beach nearby to bayfront parks and shaded nature trails, there are several beautiful places to explore together.

Here is what dog owners should know before visiting 30A.

Are Dogs Allowed on 30A Beaches?

Most vacationers cannot bring dogs onto public Gulf beaches along 30A.

Walton County limits dog-beach permits to permanent residents and Walton County property owners. Under the current ordinance, approved permit holders may bring leashed dogs onto public beaches between 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Service animals are permitted according to applicable law. Visitors staying in a vacation rental are not eligible for a temporary beach permit simply because they are lodging in Walton County. (Walton County)

What this means for vacationers

Your dog can join you around 30A, but you should not take them across a public beach access onto the sand unless they qualify as a service animal.

Fortunately, there are several pet-friendly alternatives nearby.

Closest Dog-Friendly Beach to 30A

Dog Beach at Pier Park

For visitors who want their dog to experience the Gulf shoreline, the closest designated public option is the Dog Beach at Russell-Fields City Pier in Panama City Beach.

The dog-friendly section is located on the west side of the pier, directly across from Pier Park. Dogs must remain leashed, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them. The city provides waste bags near the beach entrances. (Panama City Beach)

This is an especially convenient day trip for guests staying near Rosemary Beach, Seacrest or Inlet Beach.

Bay Access Near 30A

Cessna Landing Park

Located on Hogtown Bayou, Cessna Landing Park is one of the most convenient public bay-access areas near 30A.

Cessna Landing is not advertised by Walton County as a designated dog beach. Keep your dog leashed, follow all posted rules and verify current pet restrictions before allowing your dog near or in the water.
